どれにおいても単語力と文法力は下地として大切です。
よってこれらを蔑ろにする人の英語力と点数の伸びはどこかで止まります
（文法ができていない人のエッセイは読むに堪えません）。

その方の目標達成までの猶予時間にも寄りますが、文法は必ず復習しとくと良いでしょう。

以下のそれぞれの文章を文法的に吟味してください。
文法的にあっているか間違っているかを判断してください。

上記のスコアを目指すなら「分かる」を通り越して「使える」まで行ってください。

Ex: Not only he forgot my birthday but also he didn't even apologize for forgetting it.

Ex2:Considering that waters in this region will never be purified if we stick to old models of energy production, new environmentally-friendly measures will be taken before long.

Ex3: Bullied by classmates, his mother has angrily called his school to complain about a lack of measures to save mentally week students.

今回は
１）間違えやすくもあり
２）大人なら正しく分かっていなければいけないものでもあり、
３）それでも使えると表現力がある人に見える　
文法をまとめます。

１）Not only ~ but also .... (~だけでなく...も）

これは表現的には難しくないと思われがちですね。
Ex) I like not only sushi but also sashimi.
（寿司だけでなく刺身も好きだ）

確かに簡単です。でも以下の場合はどうでしょうか？
Not only he forgot my birthday but also he didn't even apologize for forgetting it.

これは文法的なエラーですね。
英語は「倒置」というものが存在します。文の頭が否定的な副詞的表現（＜＝これも大事）で始まる場合は、後ろの文が倒置されます。その倒置の形とは、「まるで疑問文であるかのような」形です。
あまり良い例ではないですが、よく生徒に
「はじめましての冒頭の挨拶で「死ね！」と言われたらひっくり返るよね」と言っていました。

冒頭が否定語で始まると後ろは疑問文の「形」にひっくり返ります。正確には当然疑問文ではないです。

＜否定扱いされる副詞（副詞、副詞句）の例＞
never, little, hardly, scarcely, rarely, seldom, not until ~, no sooner ~, only, hardly/scarcely ever

Ex) I have never tried the restaurant.
=> Never have I tried the restaurant.

Ex2) I little dreamed that he would accept my proposal.
=> Little did I dream that he would accept my proposal.

Ex3) He can hardly speak in front of classmates.
=> Hardly can he speak in front of classmates.

Ex4) I had scarcely left home when it started to rain.
=> Scarcely had I left home when it started to rain.

Ex5) I have rarely encountered such a situation.
=> Rarely have I encountered such a situation.

Ex6) She will seldom follow my advice.
=> Seldom will she follow my advice.

Ex7) He couldn't feel proud of himself until he won the championship.
=> Not until he won the championship could he feel proud of himself.
*not ~ until SV (SVになって初めて~)
優勝して初めて彼は自分に自信を持てた。
*Not until ... 倒置 (...になって初めて倒置）...の位置は名詞だけでもいいしSVのような文になっても大丈夫。因みにNot until...は否定で始まる副詞句だが、untilの中身（影響）はhe won the championshipまでである。なのでhe won the championshipは倒置の影響は受けないため、ひっくり返るのはその後ろからである。

Ex8) I had no sooner left home than it started to rain.
=> No sooner had I left home than it started to rain.
*had no sooner 過去分詞 than SV.
(過去分詞したらすぐにSVだ)
家を出たらすぐに雨が降り始めた。

Ex9) My dog behaved strangely only then.
=> Only then did my dog behaved strangely.

Ex10) hardly/scarcely ever = rarely/seldom
He hardly/scarcely ever accepts his failure.
=> He rarely/seldom accepts his failure.

注意）否定の副詞として使うときの話なので、以下は倒置しません。
Only my mother believes me.
*このonlyは名詞にかかる形容詞だから倒置しない。

Little help could be gained. （助はほとんど得られなかった）
*上と同様の理由で倒置しない。

2) 分詞構文

分詞構文の詳細は手持ちの本を参照してください（どうしても分からないなら聞いてください）。

Considering that waters in this region will never be purified if we stick to old models of energy production, new environmentally-friendly measures will be taken before long.
訳）古いエネルギー生産形式に固執するとこの地域の水域は二度と浄化されないだろうという風に考えて、新たな環境にやさしい対策が間もなく取られるだろう。

上記の文章は文法エラーです。たまに勘違いが入りますが、分詞構文の出だしの~ing或いは過去分詞と、文の後半（コンマの後）の主語は対象が一致しないといけません。

上では、consideringで始めていますので、「考慮している」のが後半の主語であるべきですが、後半の主語は実際のところは new environmentally-friendly measures になっています。measuresは人ではないので考えません。

修正例）Considering that waters in this region will never be purified if we stick to old models of energy production, we are now thinking of introducing new environmentally-friendly measures.

これなら consideringとwe（人）で整合性が取れますね。

同様に以下の文も文法エラーです。

Bullied by classmates, his mother has angrily called his school to complain about a lack of measures to save mentally week students.
いじめられたのが彼（いじめられた子）のお母さんのようになってしまいます。

修正例）Bullied by classmates, he cried and persuaded his mother to let him stay away from school. Hearing that, his mother angrily called his school and complained about a lack of measures to save mentally week students.
敢えてBulliedとHearingで分詞構文を2個入れてみました。
