JOB DESCRIPTION
You will assist the senior trader in managing risk, liquidity and exposure and you may support all aspects of the trading desk: pre-trade analysis, inbound and outbound trade processing and optimal risk management for large trades. You will also need to gain extensive knowledge of the $8 trillion Agency Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) market in order to effectively market to a variety of institutional investors across Asia. In particular, a thorough understanding of To Be Announced (TBAs), Specified Pools, and collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs) will ultimately be expected. The role will serve as a conduit between NY and Asia, ensuring clients get high-level execution and that the trading desk has their business promoted directly overnight.
Key tasks will include:
Supporting the day to day client requests and needs including pricing, execution, and hedging of MBS trades
Independently calculating and resolving Profit & Loss (P&L) reconciliation
Ensuring all relevant parties (vertically and horizontally) are kept abreast of key developments, including daily recaps to NY trading desk
Understanding the Agency MBS market and being able to effectively market products, trades, and ideas, as well as share color, with Asian institutional investors
Cultivating an appreciation of balance between revenue generation and building a client franchise
Understanding firm's approach and policies for managing risks in relevant business and applicable legal and regulatory rules, and following policies
Assisting with the post trade process by ensuring the accuracy of all entries and to ensure internal controls are followed

Required qualifications, capabilities, skills
Experience working in an investment bank in a sales or trading role
High levels of intellectual curiosity and capacity to learn all the details of the Agency MBS market, including TBAs, Specified Pools, and Collateralized Mortgage Obligations
Demonstrable proficiency with market and product lingo. Well versed in the quantitative nature and framework of own product (e.g. pricing, models)
Ability to communicate concepts and ideas, both verbally and via documentation, and be able to defend their validity and target messages to different audiences
Ability to interact comfortably with business clients and management
Self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently
Languages: as this role will interact with Japanese clients, fluent business-level Japanese and English are required
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, skills
Coding ability using Python/VBA; Experience using Bloomberg/Excel/PowerPoint
Understands the different types of risk and can discuss in detail ways of managing these risks
Ability to discuss in detail your understanding of how to book trades and calculate/reconcile the factors impacting P&L
Ability to thrive on the challenge of competitive pressures and remain focused on client needs
