1. K. International School Tokyo (KIST)
Almost 100% of KIST graduates pursue higher education, gaining admission to prestigious universities worldwide. Recent acceptances include globally renowned institutions such as Stanford University and Princeton University in the United States, and the University of Cambridge in the UK.
Within Japan, alumni frequently attend elite institutions such as the University of Tokyo and Waseda University. The American School in Japan, one of Tokyo’s largest international schools, boasts a remarkable university admission rate of 97% to overseas universities (73% US, 6% Canada, 6% UK, and 12% other regions). ASIJ students have notably achieved acceptances to all eight Ivy League schools (including Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia) as well as other elite universities such as Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
ASIJ also has an impressive record of acceptances at top UK universities, including Imperial College London, London School of Economics (LSE), University College London (UCL), and the University of St. Andrews. Furthermore, graduates have successfully enrolled at prominent Asian universities such as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Domestically, many alumni attend prestigious Japanese universities including Keio and Waseda. 4. Seisen International School (Seisen International School)
At Seisen International School, 95% of graduates pursue university education. For the class of 2024, university destinations are globally diverse, with 39% attending universities in Japan and Asia, 14% in the UK and Europe, and 35% in the US and Canada. As a girls' school, Seisen maintains a notably high rate of admission to prestigious universities worldwide despite its relatively small cohort size. Recent acceptances include top U.S. liberal arts colleges such as Amherst College and renowned technical institutions like Carnegie Mellon University. In the UK, alumni have enrolled at prominent universities including the University of London (UCL), the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Manchester.
Graduates also secure placements in top-tier Asian universities, such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and Yonsei University in South Korea. Approximately 70% of the class of 2024 proceeded to overseas universities, demonstrating Seisen’s global educational reach and success.
5. Rugby School Japan (Rugby School Japan)
Rugby School Japan is a newly established British-style boarding school that opened in 2023, anticipating its first graduating class in 2025. Although specific university admission results are not yet available, students are already aiming for acceptance into top global universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics (LSE), and Yale University. Other Rugby School campuses around the world have a track record of securing admissions to Oxbridge and similar elite institutions.
Drawing on Rugby School UK's 450-year educational heritage, Rugby School Japan offers rigorous academic programs, including IGCSE and A-Level curricula, to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills for admission to leading global universities.
6. St. Mary's International School (St. Mary’s)
According to data from 2020, 56% of St. Mary's graduates advanced to universities in the US, 12% to the UK, and 1% to Europe, with 66% accepted to institutions in multiple countries. As one of Tokyo's prominent boys' international schools, St. Mary's boasts a longstanding tradition of virtually all graduates pursuing four-year university degrees.
The breakdown of destinations reveals approximately 56% attending universities in the US, 15% in Japan, and 12% in the UK, with others attending universities in Canada and across Europe. Notable alumni achievements include acceptance into prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the UK, and consistent annual admissions to Ivy League universities such as the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, numerous alumni attend leading Japanese universities, including Waseda and Keio University. For instance, recent graduates include seven students admitted to various faculties of Waseda University, highlighting the wide-ranging successes of St. Mary's alumni across elite universities worldwide.
7. Hiroo Gakuen (International Course)
Hiroo Gakuen’s International Course is recognized as a leading institution for returnee students, focusing on leveraging strong English skills to achieve admission to prestigious universities worldwide. Renowned for being No.1 in Japan for overseas university admissions, Hiroo Gakuen has achieved exceptional outcomes, sending a total of 1,075 students to international universities over the past 12 years (up to 2024). Remarkably, the class of 2024 alone achieved a record-high 206 international university acceptances, up from 148 in the previous year.

In Australia, acceptances include 8 students at the University of Sydney and 4 at the University of Melbourne, showcasing Hiroo Gakuen’s strong global presence spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
8. The British School in Tokyo (BST)
Founded in 1989, The British School in Tokyo (BST) provides an education based on the British curriculum. Its graduates have successfully gained admission to prestigious institutions, notably including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and London School of Economics (LSE) in the UK, as well as top U.S. universities such as Columbia University and New York University.
BST alumni have also progressed to leading Japanese universities, including the University of Tokyo and Kyushu University.
