The revival of the SAT test marks the third Ivy League institution

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Brown University has announced that it will once again require SAT or ACT scores for the 2024 admission cycle. This follows Dartmouth College and Yale University, making it the third Ivy League school to do so.
This will apply to students who apply from fall to winter next year, intending to enter the university in the fall of 2025.

The Early Decision option will continue

In addition to reinstating the SAT/ACT tests, Brown University has announced that it will maintain the following two admission policies:

Legacy admissions (preference for children of alumni)
Early Decision option (applicants must apply by November 1st, and if accepted, they commit to attending)

SAT Revival: Mixed Opinions and Future Trends

There has been long-standing criticism that the SAT or ACT can disadvantage students from financially underprivileged backgrounds, considering that children from wealthier or more stable families can afford to spend on test preparation programs.
While there are voices against these exams, some schools have begun to express concerns that abolishing them might make it harder to identify talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Therefore, it is of interest whether other universities will follow the lead of Brown and Yale in reinstating the SAT test.
