R&D Associate Principal Scientist
Highly technical and specialized individual contributor with strong fruit & vegetable category expertise that strongly influences project direction on complex projects and seen as a "go to" resource for formulation expertise and technical leadership in both beverage and food systems
Drives and leads fruit & vegetable formula development and execution and utilizes in-depth technical know-how and advanced problem solving skills to translate strategic objectives into consumer preferred product designs
Seen as a peer technical coach to junior scientists with broad understanding of business strategies and work needed to achieve results.
Executes work beyond the scope of their individual function to assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed approaches, techniques, and activities.
Manages and collaborates with related functional activities to ensure alignment of team priorities with broader organizational initiatives, and works to set the culture and tone for the technical community.
Participate as an active member of cross-functional business development teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, Packaging, and other groups
Utilize scientific methods to develop knowledge that creates business opportunities that support the company strategic market objectives
Provide technical risk assessment/perspectives related to new product development
Design and execute experiments, and analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues
Support development of new fruit & vegetable technology to maintain and grow the business
Leverage external and internal experts for key analytical and sensory research , including partnering external to source ingredients and leverage vendor expertise in ingredient functionality
Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredients, ingredients suppliers, and product formulations
PhD Food Science, MS Food Science or BS Chemical/Food Engineering or equivalent
MS + 5-7 years experience or PhD + 2-4 yrs experience (including internships and coop)
Experience in product development a must, Fruit & Vegetable expertise strongly desired
Good verbal and written communication skills a must.
